Personally, if tyhoon Durian hit t Ho Chi Minh city, there will be hundreds of thousand people will die..No alternative way to escape. .... Must warn people now...
Andy Tang
then there is :
Ho Chi Minh never had and never will have typhoon because It's protect by a huge mountain in Vung TAu city. Some small floods in the past yes but minor.

well i scrolled further and it seems like timtams and i share the same concerns:Ho Chi Minh City:Typhoon Durian
Posted: Tue December 05 14:40:52 2006 UTC Hi there,
Is it safe to visit HCMC still? Also, we're going for a tour on the Mekong Delta river at the Ben Tre province. Is it still wise to go on this Mekong Delta tour?

food and durian
it is so very funny, that i was scrolling scrolling mindlessly down a forum page looking for the word typhoon then i stopped at this message:I've just arrived in Ho Chi Minh. :-)
Can anyone recommend some eating places within walking distance from Notre Dame Cathedral?
Ta!
maybe its the word eating coupled with Notre Dame that made me stop, but seconds later, i saw the poster's name. s/he was timtams.
well, more importantly, the answers:
1. Make sure you go to Quan An Ngon rest near ReUnification Palace ( 138D Nam Ky Khoi Nghia) - we had best meal of trip there in Oct 2006 usually jammed with vietnemese eating there too which is a really good sign!
2.There's also Au Parc, just round the corner at 23 Han Thuyen, small deli come brasserie, one of my lunchtime staples
Jonny
3. Yeap, Ngon Res. (138D Nam Ky Khoi Nghia)is rather a nice place to try Vietnamese dishes.
Besides, "Bun Ta" is a good replacement if you cannot find a seat at "Ngon"
:-). It's just next door to Ngon Res.
Dishes are not as various as Ngon's but the decoration is nice and Wifi is available.
ok im i/c of food ok.
but i do have a bad feeling about the waters. very early, when liqi said she wanted to row down mekong, i felt a chill. now the Durian hits, doesnt help tt its such a Singaporean reference.
